Item Numbering System - Item Number
|
This is the time that you can use to come up with a
numbering system that makes sense to your company. You
can create composites which are meaningful or just assign
numbers. One thing that is worth consideration, is to
have your item numbers grouped. For example, you may
want to have all flat glass start with F, hardware H,
etc. We do not recommend using special characters or
even 'O' in a part number.

|
Item Description
|
This is the description that will print on any document.
In GlassShop, you will be able to edit this field at
the point of order. You'll see later that the description
will also get any dimensions added onto the end, and
eventually, when it gets to Great Plains, the description
will include the item quantity, as in some cases, we
will use the quantity field as the measured (usually
square foot) quantity.
|
|
Short Description, Generic Description
|
Usually we leave these as the same as the Item Number,
or even "Glass", or "Metal".
|
|
Item Type
|
This is an important item. If you want to maintain
inventory of your flat glass, and have the system count
how much you have, you should have this set as "Stock
Item". If it is something that you will order for your
customer, and you don't necessarily keep it in inventory,
it is recommended that you set the item as Misc Charge.
(these would be items like insulated units). For Labor
items, use service or labor.

Pricing
|
You have several options with pricing. GlassShop utilizes
the SBF pricing schemas. If you enter the price here,
at the bottom of the Items window, GlassShop will use
this, but only if you do not have any price levels created.
Click the "Prices" button, and you will be able to work
on the "Item Prices" window. If you enable multiple
price levels, you can enter their prices here. In our
case, a price level may correspond to your types of
customers, and these can be assigned their own price
level. For example, you may have residential, cash,
commercial, and even wholesale price levels. And, despite
all of this, you can always alter your price on the
order screen in GlassShop, either by changing the list,
the price, and even by applying a discount.

Unit of Measure
|
For items that you will measure by the Square Foot,
enter SF. If Linear Foot, use LF. If they are sold by
the unit, SBF will automatically apply Each in this
field.
